Helonic

Architecture AI

Best AI Tools for Architects, by Task

Helonic is an AI construction drawing analysis platform for people comparing AI tools for Architecture AI. Massing, rendering, documentation, drawing QA/QC, code research, and specs. One or two tools per job, each named for the work it actually does.

Published · Updated

Most firms end up with one tool per phase. Forma and TestFit work in pre-design, Veras and D5 Render in visualization, Glyph inside Revit during CDs, Helonic on the issued PDFs, UpCodes for code research, and Deltek Specpoint for the project manual.

If you are the architect of record checking consultant structural, MEP, and fire packages against your own sheets, the narrower ranking is best AI for architects reviewing consultant drawings. For how Helonic fits an architecture practice, see Helonic for architects and the architect workflows hub.

The tools, ranked by what they do best

1

Helonic

That's us

Drawing QA/QC on the issued set

Helonic reads the issued 2D PDF set and flags coordination conflicts between architectural, structural, and MEP sheets, code compliance issues, missing information, and door, window, and finish schedules that disagree with the plans. Each issue carries a severity and an exact sheet location. The Autodesk integration can push those issues into Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud) as RFIs, and the same push works in Procore. It does not generate designs or renderings.

Best for: QA/QC of CD and permit sets, no BIM required

2

Autodesk Forma

Site analysis and massing

Forma Site Design is Autodesk's cloud tool for pre-design and schematic work. It sets up a geolocated site with surrounding context, generates and compares massing options with automatic area metrics, and runs rapid AI wind and noise analysis next to sun, daylight, and embodied carbon studies. It connects to Revit and is included in the AEC Collection.

Best for: Early massing and environmental tradeoffs

3

TestFit

Generative site feasibility

TestFit generates editable site plans from zoning, parking, and unit-mix targets, then reports yield and pro forma metrics so you can compare schemes side by side. A Revit add-in carries the chosen scheme into design, and an MCP connection lets you describe a site in plain language from the AI assistant you already use.

Best for: Multifamily, mixed-use, and industrial feasibility studies

4

Chaos Veras

AI rendering in your modeling tool

Veras runs as a plugin inside Revit, SketchUp, and Rhino and turns a model view into AI renders and short videos from a text prompt. You can swap a material or rework one part of the image without touching the model. Recent versions also turn sketches and reference images into native, editable geometry in those three hosts.

Best for: Concept and pitch visuals with no renderer setup

5

D5 Render

Real-time rendering with AI tools

D5 Render 3.0 is a real-time, path-traced renderer with more than 15 built-in AI features, including prompt-based atmosphere matching, asset recommendations, PBR materials generated from a photo, and image-to-3D models. D5 Lite brings real-time visualization into the SketchUp viewport during concept work.

Best for: Final presentation renders and animations

6

Glyph

Revit documentation automation

Glyph is a Revit plugin, now part of Chaos, that automates view and sheet creation, tagging, dimensioning, and placing views on sheets. Tasks can be bundled into a single click and shared across projects, and an AI assistant runs tasks from plain-language commands.

Best for: Cutting repetitive CD production work in Revit

7

UpCodes Copilot

Building code research

UpCodes Copilot answers building code questions for your jurisdiction and code year with citations to the adopted sections, and it keeps project details between sessions. It generates project-specific compliance checklists and reads uploaded documents such as AHJ comments.

Best for: Jurisdiction-specific code questions and checklists

8

Deltek Specpoint

Specifications

Specpoint is a cloud specification platform built on AIA MasterSpec content and more than 50,000 product listings. Its AI assistant, Ask Dela, answers specification and product questions, and Spec Intelligence, released in September 2026, flags coordination issues, omissions, and inconsistencies in the project specs for the spec writer to accept or dismiss.

Best for: Firms writing MasterSpec-based project manuals

How we picked these tools

We sorted tools by the job they do on an architecture project, then kept one or two per job whose features we could confirm in the vendor's own documentation or release notes in October 2026. Image generators with no link to a design model, and tools we could not confirm are still shipping, were left out.

Helonic is our product. It is listed first and named only for the job it does: QA/QC review of the drawings. It does not compete with the massing, rendering, or spec tools below.

Which AI tools help architects with massing and feasibility?

Autodesk Forma and TestFit cover pre-design. Forma leans on environmental analysis, with rapid AI wind and noise results next to sun, daylight, and carbon, so it suits urban sites where overshadowing and comfort drive the massing. TestFit leans on yield: it solves unit counts, parking, and pro forma against zoning, which is the first question a developer client asks.

Both hand off to Revit. Neither checks construction documents, so the decisions they inform still have to hold up through CDs and plan check.

What is the best AI rendering tool for architects?

Chaos Veras is the fastest path from a Revit, SketchUp, or Rhino view to an AI image, because it runs inside the modeling tool and needs no scene setup. D5 Render is the better pick for a controlled, path-traced final render or animation, with AI handling atmosphere, materials, and assets rather than the whole image.

AI renders are for design conversations. They do not show that a detail works, so keep them out of the permit set.

Which AI tools help with construction documents and QA/QC?

Glyph speeds up producing the set in Revit, and Helonic checks the set once it is issued. Glyph automates views, sheets, tags, and dimensions, which saves drafting hours but says nothing about whether the tagged door matches the door schedule. Helonic reads the issued 2D PDFs across disciplines and flags coordination conflicts, code issues, missing information, and schedule mismatches, each with a sheet and location.

Because Helonic works on PDFs, it also reads consultant sheets that never lived in your Revit model. When consultant coordination is the main job, the ranking for architects reviewing consultant drawings goes deeper on that one task. 2D clash detection shows how Helonic finds those conflicts, and design QA/QC practices covers the manual checks that still apply.

How are architects using AI for building code research?

UpCodes Copilot answers code questions for a specific jurisdiction and code year and cites the adopted section, which is where general chatbots tend to slip. In a vendor-published accuracy study, UpCodes reported 93% weighted accuracy for Copilot, more than double the next best general-purpose model.

Code research finds the requirement. Applying it across every sheet is a review job: Helonic checks the issued drawings against IBC, ADA, NFPA, and ASHRAE 90.1 and points to where the set conflicts. See code compliance checking and the wider building code compliance software ranking.

Can AI write architectural specifications?

Deltek Specpoint drafts from AIA MasterSpec content, and its AI tools answer spec questions and flag omissions and inconsistencies inside the specs. The spec writer still makes every call; Deltek describes Spec Intelligence as surfacing issues for a person to decide on.

Specs and drawings drift apart late in CDs. Helonic cross-references the drawings against the specifications for material mismatches, which catches a spec that reads cleanly on its own but disagrees with the sheet. See spec analysis.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI tool for architects?

The best AI tool for architects depends on the task. Autodesk Forma and TestFit handle massing and feasibility, Chaos Veras and D5 Render handle rendering, Glyph handles Revit documentation, Helonic handles QA/QC review of the issued drawings, UpCodes Copilot handles code research, and Deltek Specpoint handles specifications.

Can AI do drawing QA/QC for architects?

Helonic does drawing QA/QC for architects. Helonic reviews issued 2D PDF sets for coordination conflicts, code compliance issues, missing information, and schedule mismatches, and reports the sheet and location of each issue. The architect still reviews every finding and decides what to change.

Will AI replace architects?

AI tools speed up specific architecture tasks and leave design judgment with the architect. The tools on this list speed up specific tasks: massing options, images, Revit annotation, code lookup, spec drafting, and drawing review. Design judgment, client decisions, and the stamp stay with the architect.

Do these AI tools need Revit?

Some of these AI tools need Revit and some run on their own. Glyph runs only in Revit, Veras runs in Revit, SketchUp, and Rhino, and TestFit has a Revit add-in. Forma, UpCodes, and Specpoint are cloud tools. Helonic needs no Revit or BIM model because it reads the 2D PDF drawing set.

How is this page different from the consultant drawing review ranking?

The task guide covers the whole architecture workflow, one task at a time. The ranking of AI for architects reviewing consultant drawings covers a single task: the architect of record checking structural, MEP, and fire consultant packages against the architectural sheets before issue.
