What Makes an AI Drawing Review Finding Assignable?

Published November 1, 2026•4 min read

Helonic is an AI construction drawing analysis platform for project engineers and precon leads who have to turn AI drawing review findings into work someone finishes. A findings list with 80 rows and no names on it goes into a project folder and stays there. The review was right. Nobody was told it was theirs.

Direct answer. An AI drawing review finding is assignable when it names one owner, the trade or designer who has to act, a due date, the sheet and location, and the action needed. In Helonic, a reviewer assigns each kept finding to people on the project, and findings that need the designer go to Procore or Autodesk as RFIs, where due dates already live.

Which fields does every finding need?

FieldWhat it meansWhat fails
OwnerOne named person on the GC team who chases it"Precon" or "the team"
Trade or designerWho has to act: the mechanical engineer, the drywall sub"MEP"
Due dateA date tied to the bid, pre-bid deadline, or RFI turnaround"ASAP" or blank
Sheet and locationSheet number plus a spot someone can find"See mechanical"
ActionOne sentence: confirm, revise, price, or answer"Review and advise"

The tool can supply sheet, location, and a draft of the action. Owner and due date come from the team, because only the team knows who is on the job and when the bid closes.

Who should own a finding?

One person on the GC team, by name. The trade or designer does the work, but the owner is who chases it. On most jobs that is the project engineer after award, or the precon lead during the bid. Who should run the review in the first place is in who should own AI drawing review on a GC team.

Where does the due date come from?

  • A scope gap that changes the number: before the bid closes.
  • A question only the designer can answer: before the pre-bid question deadline, so it comes back as an addendum.
  • After award: the RFI response time in the contract.

Which of those a finding is depends on the sort in will AI drawing review create more RFIs.

Where should assigned findings be tracked?

In one place the job already uses. Designer questions go to Procore or Autodesk as RFIs, as described in what has to land in Procore or Autodesk. Trade items go out as an export cut to that trade's scope, per what an AI review export needs before subs will answer it. A second tracker that copies both is how items get answered in one list and stay open in the other.

Test this during evaluation. In a pilot, count how many kept findings had an owner within a day, using the measures in what to measure in an AI drawing review pilot and the protocol in how to pilot AI drawing review software.

How does Helonic handle assignment?

Every Helonic finding carries its sheet, location, category, and severity. A reviewer keeps or dismisses it, assigns it to people on the project, and can turn it into a draft RFI through RFI generation and the Procore integration. Due dates and ball-in-court are then tracked in Procore, so the job keeps one RFI log.

Practitioner insight

“The first list had no names on it, and a month later every item was still open. Second job, every finding had a person and a date before the meeting ended. That one got closed.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes an AI drawing review finding assignable?
One named owner, the trade or designer who has to act, a due date, the sheet and location, and a plain statement of the action needed. Missing any of those, the finding sits in a folder.
Who should own an AI review finding?
One named person on the GC team who makes sure it gets answered, usually the project engineer or precon lead. The trade or designer does the work, but the owner chases it.
Where should the due date come from?
From the event the finding has to beat: the bid date for scope gaps, the pre-bid question deadline for designer questions, or the contract RFI response time after award.
Where should assigned findings be tracked?
In the system the job already uses. Confirmed findings that need the designer go to Procore or Autodesk as RFIs, where due dates and ball-in-court already live.
