What Will IT Block in an AI Drawing Review Rollout?

Published October 10, 2026•5 min read

Helonic is an AI construction drawing analysis platform for preconstruction teams getting an AI drawing review tool past IT. IT will block an AI drawing review rollout when the vendor cannot answer five questions in writing: where the files sit, whether they train a model, how long they are kept, whether login runs through SSO, and who opened what. Preconstruction can ask those questions first and save a month.

Direct answer. IT blocks Helonic or any drawing review vendor that cannot name its hosting and subprocessors, state in writing that drawings do not train models, give a retention and deletion term, support SSO for a company rollout, and keep named accounts with an audit log. Each is a document, not a promise on a call.

Which answers end the evaluation?

BlockerWhy IT caresWhat to ask the vendor for
Cannot name where files are storedConfidential owners require a known host and regionHosting provider, region, and the subprocessor list
Vague answer on model trainingDrawings could end up in a model other customers useA written statement that customer data does not train models
No retention or deletion termFiles outlive the project with nobody responsibleA retention period and deletion with written confirmation
No SSO for a company rolloutLeavers keep access and passwords get reusedSSO or SAML support, and which plan includes it
Shared or personal-email loginsNo record of who opened which setNamed accounts on company email with an audit log

This is the short list of deal-breakers. The full list of setup tasks is in what IT needs before an AI drawing review, and how to read the vendor's answers is in what a security questionnaire should get back.

Does SSO have to be on before the pilot?

Usually not. A one-project pilot can run on named company accounts if IT writes that exception down with the job, the people, and an end date. A company rollout without SSO is where IT draws the line, because leavers keep access until someone remembers to remove them.

Helonic's pricing page lists SSO and SAML on the Enterprise plan. Ask any vendor which plan includes it before the pilot ends, so the rollout price is not a surprise.

What does Helonic publish for IT?

The security page states SOC 2 compliance, TLS 1.2 or higher in transit, AES-256 at rest, multi-factor authentication on critical systems, and audit logging. The AI policy states that customer data is not used to train or fine-tune AI models.

Public pages start the conversation. The contract ends it. Ask for the SOC 2 report or summary, the subprocessor list, and the retention term you will sign, then match each one to the agreement. What happens to the files at the end is covered in what happens to drawings when the subscription ends.

How does preconstruction avoid the block?

  1. Tell IT the day the demo is booked, not the day the pilot starts.
  2. Forward the security page, AI policy, and subprocessor list in one email.
  3. Ask IT which of the five blockers applies to this job's owner.
  4. Pick a pilot set whose owner terms IT can approve quickly.

A hospital or justice package is a slow first pilot for this reason, as covered in which bid package is a bad first pilot.

What will IT not block?

Whether the findings are any good. That belongs to the person who scores the pilot. IT approves the upload risk, and the product itself is judged on the set. What the product reads is on AI document review, with category background in AI for construction drawings and how to review construction drawings.

Practitioner insight

“We killed one vendor in a single email. I asked what region the files were stored in and got back 'the cloud, fully secure.' That was the end of it.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What will IT block in an AI drawing review rollout?
A vendor that cannot name where the files are stored, cannot say in writing whether drawings train a model, has no retention or deletion term, or cannot support single sign-on for a company rollout. Shared logins and personal email signups get blocked too.
Is SSO required for an AI drawing review pilot?
Usually not for a one-project pilot with named accounts, if IT writes that exception down. SSO is normally required before a company-wide rollout. Helonic lists SSO and SAML on its Enterprise plan.
Why does IT care where the files sit?
Drawings for hospitals, justice buildings, data centers, and some private owners carry confidentiality terms. IT has to know the hosting provider, the region, and the subprocessors before it can say the upload meets those terms.
What is the difference between this and the IT checklist?
The IT checklist lists what has to be done before the first upload. This page lists the answers that end the evaluation, so a preconstruction team can ask the vendor for them before IT does.
How can preconstruction avoid an IT block?
Send IT the security page, the AI policy, the subprocessor list, and the draft retention term on the day the demo is booked. An IT team that hears about the tool last is the one most likely to block it.
