Methods fall into three buckets: 3D/BIM model-based, 2D drawing-based, and AI-assisted review of those drawings. Pricing is a tier because most vendors quote from seats, modules, or volume.

Helonic

Helonic is an AI construction drawing analysis platform. It reviews issued 2D PDF sets and flags coordination conflicts across architectural, structural, and MEP sheets, plus spec-to-drawing discrepancies and code issues. Findings include severity and sheet location. Teams can pull drawings from Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud and push accepted items back as RFIs. Helonic is not a BIM coordination platform. It does not federate Revit or IFC models or run Clash Detective-style tests on solids. It is the drawing-set pass for packages that never become a complete model, and for shop drawings that arrive after model coordination is closed. Pricing is quoted. Best fit: precon and review teams whose clash risk is still on the PDF.

Autodesk Navisworks

Autodesk Navisworks Manage remains the default geometric clash tool when every trade has produced a model. Clash Detective runs hard, soft, and clearance tests on a federated NWD or NWC file. Coordinators group results, assign issues, and walk the model. That precision is why BIM-mandated contracts still name Navisworks.

Navisworks needs complete, current models. A missing trade, a stale export, or a shop drawing that never entered the federation is invisible. It does not read 2D CD sheets for spec conflicts or code flags. Pricing is a desktop subscription. Best fit: VDC and BIM coordinators on projects that already federate models. Autodesk Construction Cloud and BIM 360

Autodesk Construction Cloud holds documents, RFIs, and model coordination in the cloud. BIM Collaborate (and the older BIM 360 Coordinate / Design Collaboration products it replaced) lets teams aggregate models, run clash spaces, and track issues without everyone sitting in a desktop Navisworks session. Autodesk still documents Navisworks as the heavy clash engine that talks to those cloud issues.

BIM 360 as a standalone brand is legacy. New work lands in ACC. Neither ACC nor BIM 360 automatically reviews a 2D PDF set the way Helonic does. They store the sheets and the model issues people log against them. Pricing is enterprise subscription. Best fit: project teams already standardized on Autodesk for files and models.

Solibri

Solibri runs rule-based checks against IFC models. Firms configure rules for classification, spaces, clashes, and selected accessibility or code conditions, then get consistent results for the conditions those rules define. That is model QA during design, not PDF review after issue. Solibri Office is the authoring environment for those rules. Site and Anywhere are viewing and checking seats around the same model.

Solibri needs complete IFC. Shop drawings and many CD sets never exist in that format. A rule that never ran cannot flag a missing fire damper on a 2D mechanical sheet. Pricing is license or subscription. Best fit: BIM QA groups that already export IFC. For issued sheets, it is the wrong input type. Pair it with a 2D reviewer if the field package is still PDF.

Bluebeam

Bluebeam Revu is the markup tool most offices already own. Reviewers overlay sheets, compare revisions, and run Studio sessions. Overlay is a form of 2D clash detection: a person lines up the duct plan on the structural framing plan and marks the hit. The software does not find that hit on its own. Compare is the revision tool. Tool Chest is how offices standardize clouds and stamps.

Bluebeam stays useful after an automated or BIM pass, when someone needs to cloud the sheet the superintendent will actually hold. It is the comment layer, not the search. Pricing is per-user subscription. Best fit: designers and GC reviewers who live in PDFs and need pens, not a clash engine. Keep it even if you add Helonic or Navisworks, because markups still have to live on the sheet.

Revizto

Revizto is a BIM issue room. Teams federate models, walk the 3D space, and pin clashes for assignment. It is strongest as the place model issues get discussed after a clash tool or a coordinator has already found them. 2D sheets can be viewed in the same environment, but the product's coordination value is the shared 3D issue, not an automated PDF scan.

Revizto does not automatically read 2D construction documents for spec or code conflicts. A pin that nobody opened is the same as an unread clash report. Pricing is enterprise subscription. Best fit: BIM coordination teams that need a shared 3D issue tracker. Keep a 2D reviewer for sheets that never enter the model, then write those hits into the same issue room if that is where the project already assigns work.

Track3D

Track3D compares reality capture (360 photos, drone, or phone video) to BIM or design models so teams can see where the field diverged from the coordinated design. BIM Compare overlays the model on the capture. Deviation detection, as Track3D describes it, needs a BIM or 3D design model as the reference.

Track3D is not a preconstruction drawing-set clash tool and not a Navisworks replacement. It extends coordination into construction, after the model exists and work is visible. Pricing is quoted. Best fit: field and VDC teams closing the loop between a coordinated model and install.

Trimble Connect

Trimble Connect is a cloud workspace for sharing, viewing, and coordinating models inside the Trimble stack. Teams use it to get models in front of people who do not live in Navisworks, and to review clashes in that shared environment. Tekla, SketchUp, and other Trimble authoring tools already publish into it, which is why trades on that stack treat Connect as the common room.

It assumes model files. It does not analyze issued 2D PDF sets for spec drift. A steel model that never included the duct shop drawing will look clean in Connect and still collide on site. Pricing is subscription. Best fit: contractors and trades already on Trimble, Tekla, or related products who need a common model room. Add a drawing pass for the sheets that never entered that room.

Resolve

Resolve (resolvebim.com) is a BIM review layer, not a Clash Detective clone. Teams import federated Navisworks or ACC models, walk them in VR or on the web, and capture constructability, access, and sequencing issues that a geometric clash report often misses. Findings can sync back to Navisworks, ACC, Procore, or Revizto.

Resolve's own guides treat Navisworks as the clash engine and Resolve as the human review on top. Pricing includes a trial and quoted plans. Best fit: MEP-heavy BIM jobs where supers and trades need to stand inside the model. It does not review 2D CD PDFs.

3D BIM Clash Detection vs. AI Drawing-Based Clash Detection: Which Do You Need?

3D BIM clash detection tests geometry. Two solids occupy the same space, or a clearance envelope fails. That is the right test when every trade modeled its scope and the federation is current. Navisworks, Solibri, ACC clash spaces, Revizto, and Trimble Connect live in that world.

AI drawing-based clash detection reads the issued sheets. A duct on M-201 crosses a beam on S-201. A spec calls for a deeper plenum than the RCP allows. A shop drawing never entered the model. Choose BIM tools when the contract requires a federated model and the VDC team already runs one. Choose Helonic when the field will build from PDFs, when trades skip BIM, or when you need spec and code checks the model never held.
