Alternatives
Helonic is an AI construction drawing analysis platform for people comparing AI tools for Alternatives. Bluebeam Max adds AI review and AI comparison to Revu. Here is what each feature checks, and which tool to use when you need a different job done.
Published · Updated
Bluebeam Max is Bluebeam's premium plan: everything in Revu Complete plus Smart Review, Smart Overlay, Claude integration over MCP, Stitching, and Magic Markups, at an introductory $590 per user per year. This guide ranks Bluebeam Max alternatives by the job you were hoping Max would do. Helonic is the alternative when you want an automatic check of the full drawing set for coordination and code issues, with each finding sent to Procore or Autodesk as an RFI.
The split that matters is assisted review versus a full-set check. Smart Review runs a defined list of document-health, door-tag, plumbing-tag, and gridline checks inside your Revu workflow. A full-set check reads every discipline for conflicts and code problems. If you want to replace Revu itself, our broader Bluebeam alternatives guide covers markup tools.
Automatic full-set check
Helonic reads every sheet of a 2D PDF set and reports issues across 10 categories, including coordination, code compliance, MEP, fire safety, and accessibility, each with a severity rating and an exact page location. Smart Review checks for a defined list of drafting gaps. Helonic looks for the cross-discipline conflicts and code problems behind most RFIs, then pushes the findings you accept into Procore or Autodesk. Keep Revu for markup.
Best for: Teams that want the whole set checked, not a list of tag and sheet checks
Revu without the AI tier
Complete is the plan directly below Max, at $440 per user per year on Bluebeam's pricing page, and it keeps Revu markup, measurement, and full Studio sessions. Stay on Complete if your team mainly marks up and runs Studio sessions and you haven't tested whether Smart Review finds enough on your sets to justify the higher price.
Best for: Revu teams that want markup and Studio without paying for AI previews
Drawing scans inside Procore
Procore's Drawing Analysis Agent scans drawing sets and revisions for coordination gaps, missing details, spatial conflicts, and scope changes, then describes the likely project impact. It ships in the Pro and Enterprise Digital Coworker packages, not the Starter Pack. It fits teams whose drawings already live in Procore.
Best for: GCs who run the project in Procore and want AI on the drawings there
Revision overlays
If Smart Overlay is the Max feature you wanted, Autodesk Docs already includes a Compare tool for PDF, DWG, and RVT sheets. It overlays two versions in red and blue, and RVT drawings get object-level added, removed, and modified highlights. It shows what changed. It does not judge whether the change created a conflict.
Best for: Autodesk teams comparing drawing revisions
Code check against local adoptions
UpCodes launched Plan Review on June 3, 2026. It analyzes uploaded drawings against UpCodes' library of locally adopted codes and amendments, with discipline-specific runs and checklist reviews, and links each issue to a drawing page and code section. UpCodes lists it as Enterprise-only and in early access.
Best for: Design teams whose main worry is the code, not tags and sheets
Expert-verified full-set review
BuildCheck reviews full 2D PDF sets across disciplines with 300-plus checks, including drawing health, 2D clashes, and omissions, and has construction experts verify every finding before delivery. Turnaround runs days rather than minutes, and back-checks on revised sets are free.
Best for: Owners and GCs who want a person to vet each issue
Max adds six things on top of Revu Complete, per Bluebeam's May 19, 2026 launch release: Claude integration over MCP, Stitching for combining sheets into one to-scale view, Magic Markups, Smart Overlay, Smart Review, and Connected Studio Sessions with Revit.
Smart Review and Smart Overlay run in Bluebeam's cloud from the Batch menu in Revu 21, and results open in Bluebeam on web. Both are labeled preview, and Bluebeam says Smart Review is optimized for US vertical commercial construction.
Smart Review runs a named list of checks. Document health covers blank sheets, sheets missing from the set or index, duplicate sheet numbers, and referenced sheets that do not exist. It also checks gridline spacing between structural and architectural sheets, door tags against the door schedule, and plumbing schedule tags against the plans.
Bluebeam's FAQ says it works best on floor plans, the plumbing check compares top-view plans only, and tag matching is exact and case-sensitive. Duct through a beam, a rated wall with an unrated door, or an egress width short of code fall outside that list. Those are the findings a full-set check is built for.
Buy Max if your reviewers live in Revu and the drafting checks, Stitching, or Claude over MCP save them real hours. The introductory price locks through the 2027 renewal, after which Bluebeam will charge standard list price.
Keep Complete and add Helonic if the problem is conflicts and code issues that reach the field. Run both on a set where you already know the issues, and count what each one finds.
This page compares alternatives to the Max AI tier. If you want to leave Revu entirely for another markup tool, see our Bluebeam alternatives guide and the blog roundup of Bluebeam alternatives. For a head-to-head, see Helonic vs Bluebeam.
Bluebeam Max is Bluebeam's premium subscription, launched globally on May 19, 2026. It includes everything in Revu Complete plus Smart Review, Smart Overlay, Claude integration over MCP, Stitching, Magic Markups, and Connected Studio Sessions with Revit. The introductory price is $590 per user per year.
Helonic is the alternative for an automatic full-set check of coordination and code issues, with the issues it finds pushed to Procore or Autodesk Forma as RFIs. Procore AI's Drawing Analysis Agent fits teams already in Procore, and UpCodes Plan Review fits teams focused on code.
Bluebeam Smart Review is not generally available as of October 2026. Bluebeam labels Smart Review and Smart Overlay as preview features, available only on a Max plan in Revu 21.
Smart Review runs specific document-health, door-tag, plumbing-tag, and gridline checks. It does not run a coordination and code pass across architectural, structural, and MEP sheets. Many teams keep Revu for markup and run a separate full-set review.
Helonic works alongside Bluebeam Max on the same PDF set. Teams keep Revu, with or without Max, for markup and Studio sessions, and run Helonic on the issued PDF set. The issues Helonic finds go to Procore or Autodesk Forma as RFIs.
Milind is the co-founder and CEO of Helonic, where he leads product and go-to-market for AI-powered construction drawing analysis. He works closely with general contractors, project managers, estimators, and owners to understand how drawing quality drives project outcomes - and where AI can reduce RFIs, change orders, and rework. Milind has interviewed hundreds of construction professionals across project delivery roles, from preconstruction estimators at ENR top-400 contractors to facilities directors at institutional owners, and uses those conversations to shape both product direction and the way Helonic talks about the work.
How this page was researched: We compared each option against the specific features Bluebeam Max adds on top of Revu Complete: Smart Review, Smart Overlay, Claude over MCP, Stitching, and Magic Markups. Bluebeam facts come from the Max product page, the pricing page, the Smart Review FAQ on support.bluebeam.com, and the May 19, 2026 launch release, all retrieved October 2026. Helonic is scored on its documented full-set 2D PDF review and Procore and Autodesk RFI export.
